Last week's decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade  - to remove the right for a woman to do what she wants with her body - was a damning slap in the face to women and major step backwards for America.  This puts us woefully behind and out of touch with the rest of the modern world and more in keeping with those countries we criticize for treating women as second-class citizens.

There is no greater fundamental right than allowing a person to do what they want with their body. Yet, this decision will allow state leaders - typically white men - to decide what women can and can't do with their bodies. This decision will undoubtedly cause severe emotional, physical and financial harm to tens of millions of women and their families at a time when we're struggling on all these fronts. 

Simply put, it's a human rights violation.

To be clear, it is not just an attack on reproductive rights, but also an attack on marginalized communities. This decision will impact low income people much more severely because those with financial means and power will always have access to safe healthcare and abortions, making the decision even more nefarious.

The fight has just begun. And we will do everything we can to join the fight.
